atop a mountain

4/25/18

The primeval god lived atop a mountain in Jakarta. High above the Liwung river, millions of years before the first Indonesians built a city. No one knew his name except Bldr, Tammuz, Issis, Osiris, Orpheus, three wise kings... and of course the staff writers at marvel comics. And their teachers: Athena and Cheiron.

The god had moved there from from kahyangan. He rode a gigantic barbirusa.

“Svarga Loka is a set of heavenly worlds located on and above Mt. Meru where the righteous live in paradise before their next incarnation.”

“The wisest and justest of all the centaurs.” How did Cheiron come to be his own true, best self?

His father Cronus, a Titan took the shape of a horse when he had sex with Philyra. Could that be where the name fillie originates?

Chieron was unlike other centaurs who were born of sun- King Ixion bound to a fiery wheel whose wings could not free him- and rain cloud nymph Nephele, who Zeus claimed to have modeled after Hera- unlikely since he was always trying to get away from her. Unless he did this homage out of guilt. Or perhaps despite his infinite lack of self control really did love her.

Ixion, father of most centaurs ruled over  the Lapiths, the oldest tribe in Thessaly, also known as Aeolia.

It is said Chieron’s  “peaceful character and intelligence’” were the happy result of his education with masters Apollo and Artemis. Some thought Cheiron was a Thessalian god who the Greeks brought into their mythology.

“Chiron was said to be the first among centaurs and highly revered as a teacher and tutor. Among his pupils were many heroes: Asclepius, Aristaeus, Ajax, Aeneas, Actaeon, Caeneus, Theseus, Achilles, Jason, Peleus, Telamon, Perseus, Heracles, Oileus, Phoenix, and in one Byzantine tradition, even Dionysus.”

Did Chiron raise Jason in the Pelion?

So it was far afield that this god of Indonesia went for tutoring.

Mt. Meru to the Pelion could have been traversed in the twinkling of an eye. But Cheiron demanded that the god of Indonesia travel across the oceans on a raft with his babirusa.
