Christian dropped his pen on the floor. Christopher quietly placed his pen under his chair. Chris threw his on the floor.
After every class, I would harvest the pens which the kids mistakenly thought were out of ink.
I didn't buy a pen for two decades.
"Hey mister. Ya got a pen?"
After a few years of urging kids to be prepared when they came to school, I said, "Do I have a pen? Take a look."
Dozens upon dozens of pens of every color practically jumped out when I unlocked the desk.
"That's a lot-a pens mister."
I joked, "You think that's a lot of pens, you should see the store where I got them."
One day, it might have been one of the Christians, Muslims or the Jewish kid, asked for a pen.
When I opened the desk, then handed him one, he said, "Gee, I used to have a pen just like this one."
