a viable alternative

Joe couldn’t afford a house. Writing in his journal, he thought about going back to school to study something which would make him a lot more money. His thoughts quickly turned to how everything seemed bizarre: truth being called fake news - the very words made his brain hurt…
He thought about how the government’s inflating prices of construction caused the cost of acceptable quality to skyrocket. Although it was done to enrich real estate moguls, it was sold to the public as “The Best Public Works Project for Real American Patriots.
That, in combination with the “easing” of standards- because the new laws “we’re so tough on rich people that [our leader said he] just had to give them something.” The same line he used when he took healthcare away from the needy giving the largess to people like himself- caused the accident:
Families were sheltering themselves from the rain under the marquee as the parade was interrupted by the sudden storm caused by global weirding of the weather. The marquee collapsed killing and crippling dozens of school children and their parents.
Fearless leader immediately responded. What a great guy!
He criticized immigrant workers who he said were responsible for the shoddy construction.
Joe’s big brother was making out with his girlfriend in the shed.
Joe was pissed off, wanting nothing more to do with Mariana- not sure how to deal with his brother.
“I’m no writer,” thought Joe. “I keep jumping from one thing to another. I am a dilettante. People barely conceal their hatred of me. It is more indifference tinged with being fed up…. I am starving for attention, even if it is negative. My narcissism seems incurable. Perhaps, if I could harness my energy to some social good, it might make life worthwhile.
… a viable alternative.”
Suddenly, he was home.
It wasn’t Kansas.
