The first of the 10 Rorschach tests

In the process of transformation, a sorcerer in the guise of an eagle is spreading and shedding his extra wings. He has the wisdom and eyes of an ancient owl or frog and also more than a hint of evil magic. The creature is dressed in a gray robe almost white indicating that his malevolence is abating replaced by freedom of thought and motion. He is less encumbered by extra parts which others may have thought useful or powerful but for him were just constraining in what was a vain, exhausting and no longer needed charade. That his hands are small initially seemed a weakness. Perhaps they are raised in an incantation however that his wings are becoming hands is a sign of his growing humanity. He has a brilliant white buckle on his gray belt indicating that although he is well on his way to mastery, he keeps the mind of the beginner.

It was an old, dirty, narrow street. One thought of Harry Potter walking through a wall to a magical train station and an exciting if not enlightened world.

But there was no magic here.

A guy on the sidewalk with a cardboard sign telling the world he was a homeless vet, two guys a few steps away asking for loose change, and Sister, a college graduate with four grandchildren, her daughter’s kids and a son who had disowned her.

It had been raining, drizzling really. Still there was no sun. A dull gray permeated the winter air between the rotting once proud buildings.

It is was a mixed-use neighborhood, some offices, stores and broken brownstones. The streets could use a good paving. The sidewalks were cracked with age and neglect.

A girl jumped rope. All smiles.
