Tensions in the Middle East
go back thousands of years.
In many ways, tensions among people
date from the dawn
of humanity:
competition for food, for all manner of
necessities, from greed, lust for power...
Fights between brothers,
extended families, clans, nations...
can these be brought to peaceful coexistence?
Certainly in some instances,
in some parts of the world, for
a period of time,
we have known peace.
In these relatively calm periods, some have enjoyed
a peacetime while
irrational hate has kept
millions in misery.
�There is usually some degree of justification on both sides
of conflicts... can we say always?
When differences and needs are expressed with
violence
it only escalates.
In the rare case where there is a total defeat,
unless the vanquished are dealt with compassionately,
helped
to rebuild, as the United States did with
Germany after the
second World War, festering resentment breeds
future conflicts,
It can be argued that in
the case of the American Civil War the
opposite was true.
Too many concessions were given to the
Confederates which
allowed them to prolong the
misery of the people they had
enslaved, then over time, come to master
by gaming of the
American system of Justice,
Equality, tolerance and
our Constitution.�
Soundscape No. 14, is my hope that
the peoples in the
Middle East, so
similar in so many ways, so
different in others, can not only
find
peaceful coexistence but may
become a beacon for all world conflicts.
Soundscape No. 14 is based on the national
anthems of Israel & the Palestinian people.
It also quotes from Rimsky-Korsakov's
monumental trombone concerto.�
